TMS-004:
TV tuner-converter of a new generation.
Considering the demand for the TMS-003 transcoder
in the Russian market, we have decided to continue the development
of the Telematic TMS project. The development of a TV tuner-standards
converter of a new generation is under way.
Our new model will preserve all the principles implemented in the
prototype. We have also taken into account the wishes of our customers
and will do some additional work on engineering and schematic design
which would enhance the reliability of the device and improve its
consumer qualities.
What changes will the next version have? What lies ahead?
The digital signal processing module was completely redesigned.
Faster and easier available chips were used as memory for the video
buffer. The video buffer is now based on the fast SDRAM-type memory
which is used in almost any computer. The "heart" of the
system is now a hard logic finite-state automaton built around the
state-of-the-art designs of the Xilinx company. A series of chips
of the SpartanII programmed logic is a perfect solution for arbitration
of video streams and the controller of the dynamic SDRAM memory.
The control system will also undergo changes. Due to the implementation
of a finer technological process, and, as a consequence, the termination
of the production of some chips by the Atmel company we switched
to a newer chip ATmega162. Its features and energy characteristics
surpass those of its predecessor.
The output RF modulator is now designed as a separate unit. It is
used in a very limited number of situations, therefore we have decided
to make it a separate module which can be purchased and connected
as may be required. The unit is installed inside the tuner case
on special connectors.
The internal connector will be provided to make connection of the
"RGB-NAVI SWICTH" expansion unit easier.
The "DIVERSITY SYSTEM" antenna selection unit was completely
redesigned. Antenna matching circuits and switching elements were
updated. The algorithm of antennas scanning when they receive either
very weak or no signals was changed. Though TMS-003 has demonstrated
excellent television reception, in the new model we managed to achieve
still better results.
New configuration options have been added. Now the device can work
with various versions of PHILIPS remote controls currently available
in the Russian market
Now it is possible to configure the external video camera. The "MIRROR"
mode for the video camera can now be activated. It is a very convenient
function if the parking video camera is installed at the rear.
A great many of schematic and program improvements have been made
which may not be visible but significantly enhance the overall reliability
of the device.
